Airplane Stationery — Somewhere at Sea
Letter #8

Dear Sweetheart —

It's a beautiful day today. Nice to see the sun for a change.

I am writing this from the Officers' Mess which also doubles for a lounge. Can see the ocean — just as blue as they say it is — when we "bank" in that direction. She really rocks.

The ship's band has just embarked upon its perennial half-hour of march music for the day. Loud!

I don't consider myself an old salt, but I believe I'm rather well acclimated now. Don't mind saying the first couple of days I ruled out any possibility of a cruise for a vacation; rather felt that we ought to fly. Now I've come to the conclusion that a cruise might be all right, providing of course that you want one (or 2 or 3 or 4 etc) just so long as it's more than say a week. The first few days would be wasted getting our sea legs — maybe I should say my, because you are probably an old "sea dog" Ensign, & less than a week at sea wouldn't be fun. Therefore if we should want to take a trip to Bermuda — we fly. We could of course fly to South America, Mexico or Europe since the ships are making it in pretty quick time, but we might go on say a tourist ship (sea class) & be leisurely about it.

I rather think I shall see some of Europe before its over. Oh yes, let's not forget Hawaii as a vacation land. It's supposed to be beautiful. We'll see.

Have you any preference as to where you'd like to go, for I insist that we have lots of fun as married folk & where we don't have to really travel for that I think you might really like that; ergo — why shouldn't we. I love you so much & want you to be happy, glad that you married me & whatever we want to do we shall. Its going to be such fun when we are together.

A month in bed!

Your devoted husband,

Dolph
