USO Stationery — On the train at Hartford

Dear Sweetheart —

I am writing this on the train at Hartford. Just seen the kid. He looks well — a good boy. Pete, he orders this here — graduates the 21st. Expects to go to Middy School.

I gave him the photos, your ration book & the "Please Do Not Disturb" sign to air mail to you, as I am & will be rushed & so can't be able to make a pkg.

Had a little to do this morning about that blasted toilet. When I left it didn't flush all right, but it worked out. But Ralph when he came home caused it to overflow. So he let Mother know this morning & you know Mother — Ralph is right — the poor boy couldn't call the super in the morning — No! I had to go down — slept at my mother's — & get the super. I feel sorry for him.

Sure would have liked to have seen him when it overflowed! Couldn't have been for "nuffin" could it!

Took care of the pictures. Have a single & a double sent you + 2 of each to be picked up. I shall phone Marion, but just in case I should forget, please write her, won't you please? & she can take one of each to my mother. Everyone will be happy, right?

Monty was up last night — Muriel had gone to Sgt. Norvey. Rotten — think that will be the last — he left his keys.

Can well imagine what a rough trip it was, but hope it wasn't too bad.

Take care of yourself dear.

I love you.

Your devoted husband,
Dolph

[Second part, same letter — Mon. Night]

Dear Sweetheart —

Very sorry that you had to travel in such a heat-up train. Hope that if you weren't able to move into one of the other coaches at least you had the entire seat to yourself & could stretch out.

Wasn't easy to say goodbye. And we both know that, but at least dear we are fortified in the true knowledge that our love is right & good & our frequent get togethers & our separations has just further concretized our love.

Our love is steadfast & true & no matter how long our separation may be I am yours completely & wholly & there can never be another like you.

It's been heaven having you in my arms & I shall be eternally grateful that God has looked so well upon me that he has favored me with such a wondrous wife.

I have found a little pixie in you — I like it.

I know it's going to be marvelous when we are together — until the boat shoves off with me on board, I'm not going over. So until that happens anything can turn up.

I love you love you.

Your devoted husband,
Dolph
