Dear Sweetheart:
I have just returned from seeing Our Town in german - Eine Kleine Stadt. Well - my poor german was to no avail, but my knowledge of the play & acting was enough - under the circumstances.
Now I don't remember whether in the N.Y. production they used makeshift scenery & changed it with an open curtain or not; but here it was all they could do. And except for a couple of words I did understand (which didn't do me much good) I didn't catch the commentator's remarks which were played for laughs - & that was highly objectionable to me, whether it was done in N.Y. or no, for while there are laughs in the play - they are gentle ones. Also I rather think they didn't really understand the play. But withal there was so much that was good in the acting it was very worthwhile going.
As regards civilianization for I know how it is in service - one day it blows hot, next day cold. Today the rumors were hot - that is the persons that be in this matter are going to go ahead full steam & convert our branch within a month. Am always glad to hear such rumors, but that's all it is.
How are you feeling dear? And tell me - how does my mail come through? It just doesn't here. They blame it on the weather, redeployment etc. - but the result is the same — no mail.
I am enclosing the program of Our Town, & the other I found in another pocket.
I hope you are taking good care of yourself beloved wife.
I love you so much. If each grain of sand on all beaches & all the deserts represented one hour of love, I still love you more than all that those accumulated years. I love you.
Your devoted husband,
Dolph
