Dear Sweetheart—

This is the Sabbath in a typical small French town — quiet. The place is but a shell of its former self, but its quiet now — the fighting has gone on.

It's a bit eerie here, though not half as bad as Le Havre where our bombers made a shell of the place, but comforting in the knowledge that the ruins are the work of our air force.

Naturally I am kept busy, but not so much today which gives me an opportunity to straighten out my clothing. As to what is to be — well see. There is no knowing. Everyone is optimistic but the war will be over when its over, + I more than expect to be doing an active share.

I have been lapping up information from officers who have been doing the fighting, + am sure I shall do all right.

No mail received as yet, but you are ever before me — my great love + the one I live for.

Your devoted husband
Dolph
