Dolph's Letter #19 [Continuation]

Dear Sweetheart-

In continuation of the last letter — we had an amplifier in a little village jump. In the middle of the raids, during the conflab French women would come to the jump + crack oldies, little children would clutch the men + ask for gum + franky would say bou fois to the men.

Seems to me I have touched on money so will in this letter — a 20 franc note, 10, + 2. At the present exchange — about 25¢! That is equivalent to 64¢. Can't send more than 50 francs home — all the little bills I have.

I expect my APO will change. You will find me, from now on, in the 3rd Army under General Patton. Then my work will be cut out for me.

Lots of stories around how cruel the Germans were. Terrible. One is that every week the S.S. men would come to the mairies + take away men. Their wives never knowing each night whether their husbands would come home or be shipped to Germany.

Right now my quarters are more comfortable than I've had so far on the continent. I can't tell you what the story will be as far as what work I shall be doing — don't know myself. But whatever it shall be I shall do to the best of my ability.

I am so much in love with you darling. I hope you are well, + my mail is reaching you. I haven't had any mail since I left the U.S. — haven't stayed long enough in one place, I guess, but please keep on writing, I'll get it. It doesn't matter what beauty or what destruction I witness — you are always before me. I have your picture — big one in front of me now. (I sent the one with the glass home to you.) + I live for the time when we are reunited. Please take good care of yourself.

I love you.

Your devoted husband,
Dolph.
