Somewhere in France
Dolph's Letter #30
Dear Sweetheart-
Any third letter type today — very glad I have the time.
I drew my pay today + found not that I well tender the money to you, through the post — which is safe the slow rather than money order. Sure there have been mail thefts, checks it was remarked that is a safer method.
Well, you know I was money playing poker on the way here. As a matter of fact I was the big winner — almost doubled my money in a cheap game 10¢. I had 35 + won 30. So I've kept that money for whatever expenses or I might meet in France + since that new pay setup down + take spot til March — $7.50 to you + 20 to my Mother, + because my war bond was cancelled due to a change of station it worked out that I drew 123.40 which I promptly — immediately — turned over to Finance to ship to you. I shall retain the receipt til you tell me you have received the money — I sent it to you at 619 Peachtree N.E.
It was made out to + War Dept Finance Dept from In. 38. It should reach you no later than 6 weeks from today, probably sooner. Please let me know, when it arrives + if it doesn't in 6 weeks. Money in the bank + + or bonds or however you see fit to use it. I'm sure I have enough.
It's funny not knowing what you are doing. I do hope you are well. I'm not doing much of anything so am taking it easy.
I want you to know that I believe I am adjusted mentally, you know prepared, for that which I expect I shall be called upon to do. And you may be sure that you give my inspiration, my guiding star, my love, my life. It's hard for me to be separated from you, but at least I have work to keep me occupied while you must have it harder — imaging. Please dear don't dwell upon it.
I wish I had some mail.
I love you dear heart — you are everything to me.
Your devoted husband,
Dolph
