Dear Sweetheart -

Well honey this is the day. All over - everywhere. In a sense though it's a bit of a let down in that the news news

[Letter continues - dated:] Tues 8 May.

(The generator went on the 'blink' + it's still not repaired!)

days have prepared us for the inevitable collapse.

I surely hope they will have the generator fixed in time for us to hear Churchill's Victory Address.

I have been very busy dear setting up an athletic field, but I have enjoyed it as it has really become balmy + it's fine to be in the sun.

It's so marvelous that the war is really over.

Now if only I can come home.

Please dear - take good care of yourself. I love you so much + maybe I'll be home soon.
