Air Mail Stationery — France Dolph's Letter #40

Dear Sweetheart

Last night was really something.

A truck took us into town — should say city for it is really nice & a big city at that.

It was the first chance for me to see this city — at least a portion of it. The country- side is beautiful — but the city is beat up. The people have started coming back & a few of the stores have reopened — but the truck brought us right back after Services so there wasn't an opportunity.

Well the Services were held in a large meeting hall but still there wasn't enough room — seems all the outfits in the vicinity sent the men into the city for the Services & yet I couldn't see anyone I knew.

There were French civilians present — not too many but enough to be a good sprinkling & I was amused hearing a French woman converse in Yiddish with a French accent — or was it the other way round? Well even though I thought I wouldn't like it I enjoyed myself.

That's about all the local news. I've just been on general duty alone I hope.

Your devoted husband, Dolph
