Air Mail Stationery — France Dolph's Letter #42

Dear Sweetheart —

Well dear it's a beautiful day here — a little cool — but there is a high ceiling. I guess you wonder why I mention the Air Corps so frequently — well it's really a matter of business, I'm afraid. You see the Armored Divisions — such as I'm in — spearhead the Armies as you probably know — & many times are so far in front that the foot infantry are just unable to keep up, even when put into trucks, & the artillery is still harder put — so it's the Air Corps — the tactical part — which functions as our artillery as well as reconnaissance & supply. In that way the enemy can't cut us off effectively. I'm sure the Air Corps is out in full strength today.

It was pitiful that a false Armistice was announced in the U.S. I'm sure it hurt. As it is I go to the room the radio is in several times a day hoping that I will hear it's all over — they are taking a big beating — it all depends just how many troops the enemy has lost in this drive — killed, wounded, captured & cut off which will tell the story, I believe.

You know, just thinking how wonderful it will be to see you & hold you in my arms thrills me so much. Oh God — let it be over soon, right away, today!

I miss you so very much sweet. All I think about is you. You are so lovely, so beautiful. I am very fortunate to have you as my wife & I know our future shall be deliriously happy. Please take good care of yourself — it shan't be long before we shall be together.

Your devoted husband, Dolph
