Air Mail Stationery — Germany Dolph's Letter #46

Dear Sweetheart —

How is my wonderful one today?

Your husband hasn't been doing much of anything. Course I am kept "busy" but it doesn't amount to anything.

Do you know honey that ever since we have been separated I have never been able to enjoy myself? Why? Well it isn't be- cause I haven't seen beautiful things — like the Metz Cathedral which I saw when I went there for Passover Services — it's just that I can't get any way near the full measure of enjoyment which I should derive because there is a missing factor — you. You have become the most important part of me. Without you — I'm nothing.

I long for you so much, but I have to steel myself to actualities. Some of the most important years of my life are fruitless, from our personal point of view, because we are not together.

I hope, I know, you're shouldering your part of this burden of our separation — my exile, so to speak, like the swell trouper you are. It's so hard & difficult to know that the finest thing I shall ever do — marrying you — cannot be enjoyed the way it ought.

So when I say "Please take care of yourself" it's not a trite expression, but rather a soulful desire that you should enrich & make sure that the best part of me shall be well when I return. I love you.

Please take care of yourself.

Your devoted husband, Dolph
